​John Roen Asher  CEO

​John Asher is the son of Charles W. Asher and Hilda Roen Asher, and grandson of Captain John Roen. John joined Roen Salvage full time in 1972 upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.S. degree in Education. He proudly displays his child labor permit, dated July 3rd, 1964, on his office wall which permitted him to work for Roen Salvage at the age of 16. In general, tugs, barges, and marine construction have been a passion for his entire life. In 1985 John’s father Charles appointed him to company President, while Charles became CEO and Chairman of the Board until his death in 1993. John became CEO of Roen Salvage in 2015 and appointed his longtime friend and Vice President Tom Drager to President, and his step-son David Schanock to Vice President/CFO. Over his career John has taken on a variety of rolls including janitor, pile driver, equipment operator, deckhand, certified diver, multi-engine pilot, job site quality control, and the “Boss’s Son” which he claims to have been the toughest job of all.

David Schanock joined Roen Salvage in 2014 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer after spending 13 years working in Chicago within the Investment Banking sector. He has a BBA in Finance, Investment & Banking and Real Estate & Urban Land Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  His duties at Roen Salvage include: oversee economic strategy and forecasting, monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans, develop financial and tax strategies, monitor and maintain appropriate risk management measures, and new business development.​

​Barry Kuzay, P.E.  Vice President & General Manager

​Barry Kuzay joined Roen Salvage in 2010 as a Project Engineer. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a focus in structural engineering. He is involved in projects from start to finish: estimating, bidding, permitting, contracting, submittals, job inspection, layout surveys, hydrographic surveys, structural stability analysis, critical lift planning, as-built drawing, and closeout. He has experience on navigational dredging projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, steel sheet pile seawalls, stone breakwaters, dolphin mooring structures, offshore navigational structures, submarine pipelines, submarine power cables, and corrosion protection of existing seawalls.

 Thomas Drager, P.E.  President Emeritus

​Thomas Drager joined Roen Salvage in 1983 as a Project Engineer. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was previously employed by the Milwaukee Rail Road and Morrison-Knudsen Company working as a Field Engineer on railroad structural projects. Since joining Roen Salvage, Tom has advanced in steps from Project Engineer to President of the company. He is personally involved and knowledgeable in every project that Roen Salvage undertakes including bidding, procurement, surveying, construction inspection and design changes. Tom has used his extensive engineering/construction background to successfully incorporate design changes into projects at substantial savings to the clients.
