Engineer: USACE Chicago District
Contract amount: $6,612,990.75
Category: Reinforced Concrete, Breakwater Repair, Grout Stabilization

Repairs of the Chicago harbor breakwater consisted of drilling through the concrete cap and pumping grout into the structure. 4,557 cubic yards of grout was batched at the breakwater and placed throughout 1,200 feet of the structure. Containment measures were used on both sides of breakwater to protect the harbor from any grout leakage during pumping.  This work started on April 21, 2023 and was completed on July 8, 2023.

Running concurrently with breakwater repairs, the Chicago north pier resurfacing involved multiple site improvements to the Chicago Locks property. This work consisted of constructing a stone block retaining wall, grading and installing 500 feet of new road, replacement of an existing concrete slab, installation of safety railing, and restoration of a soil slope with native seeding.
